February marks the one year anniversary of the suppressed popular uprising in Bahrain. The people of Bahrain have continued to face human rights violations, imprisonment, and manipulation at the hands of the Khalifa monarchy. On Friday the 17th of February, Muslims for Peace, Inc will be organizing a protest in Washington, D.C. in front of the Bahraini embassy.
The people of Bahrain have been protesting peacefully for their rights, for equality, but the King and monarchy has replied with utter cruelty. Armed forces opened live rounds against the protesters—over sixty people have died, since February 2011. Many innocent/peaceful Bahrainis have been killed and or injured. Saudi Arabia has played a part in crushing the protests. We must support the people of Bahrain. We ask all persons who have sympathy for the plight of the Bahrainis and basic human rights to join us this Friday.
The Executive Director of Muslims for Peace, Naqi Haider has also echoed these sentiments. In a recently statement the group said: “the conditions in Bahrain are unacceptable, human rights violations continue unabated innocent people are losing their lives, and the our government here in the US is selling weapons to the monarchy. The Saudi government has provided martial support and troops to put down the protesters–we as American citizens must speak out”
Please join us Friday, February 17th. Support the people of Bahrain.
