The Islamic Centers today reinforced its grave concerns regarding the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, where a severe food crisis is pushing the population to the brink of starvation. Alarming reports indicate that nearly one in three people in Gaza are now enduring days without food, a critical indicator of widespread famine.
The World Food Program (WFP) has warned that malnutrition is surging at an unprecedented rate, with an estimated 90,000 women and children in urgent need of life-saving treatment. The humanitarian community’s warnings of mass starvation have intensified, underscored by tragic reports from the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry of nine additional deaths due to malnutrition on Friday alone, bringing the total number of such fatalities since the conflict began to 122.
“The scale of suffering in Gaza is unfathomable and demands immediate, unrestricted humanitarian action,” Mustafa Abdi , MFP Director
“Every day without adequate food and medical supplies pushes more innocent lives towards an irreversible catastrophe. We implore all parties to prioritize the lives of civilians and ensure humanitarian aid can reach those in desperate need without impediment.”
Adding to the growing chorus of international concern, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq’s top Shiite cleric, on Friday urged the international community—particularly Arab and Islamic nations—to act immediately to end what he described as a “major humanitarian tragedy” unfolding under Israeli military operations.
In a powerful statement, al-Sistani condemned what he called the “brutal savagery” of the Israeli occupation, which he said was part of an ongoing effort to displace Palestinians from their homeland. He stressed, “While such acts of cruelty may be expected from the occupying forces, what is expected from the countries of the world—especially Arab and Islamic nations—is to ensure this immense humanitarian disaster does not continue.”
Al-Sistani further urged these nations to “do everything in their power to compel the occupying entity and its supporters to allow the urgent delivery of food and essential supplies to innocent civilians.” He warned that the worsening famine in Gaza, vividly portrayed by media outlets, is too grave to ignore, stating, “These horrifying scenes of widespread starvation should prevent any person of conscience from enjoying food or drink in peace.”
The Islamic Centers echo these urgent calls, emphasizing that humanitarian aid must be allowed to flow freely and safely into Gaza to prevent further loss of life. The current situation highlights an urgent need for increased international efforts to ensure sustained and comprehensive access for food, medical supplies, and other essential aid.
