This year, Christmas, which is the birthday of Jesus Christ has coincided with the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The Muslims hold both individuals in high esteem as Messengers of God. Hence, in their honor, Muslims from MFP had hosted their annual Christmas party for underprivileged and at risk children at the Children’s Home Society in Trenton, New Jersey. Soldiers from the joint base MDL also volunteered at this event.
The children celebrated with fun, food, and festivities. They played board games, sang Christmas Carols, ate delicious food and enjoyed each other’s company. The kids also interacted with the hosts. One of the goals of this event was to connect with the children and to plant seeds of inspiration. For instance, many of the kids at the party who were under the age of 12 were uncertain of what they wanted to do in life, besides play sports. When asked about what other jobs that they might be able to do, some said they could perhaps work at a restaurant or in retail. Subsequently, the adults offered alternative suggestions of possibly being able to build a really awesome house, app, or to teach others. Suddenly, some of the children began offering alternative careers and some others wanted to know how they could achieve these things. Therefore, it became our wish and goal to stay connected to these kids and support them in their life’s journey towards an intellectually, financially and spiritually rewarding adulthood.
Also, during the party, each child received a $20 gift certificate and toys from Santa.
We hope to continue to build bonds with people of all faiths in the true spirit of Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ, may God’s peace and blessings be upon them.
