Trenton, NJ—December 4th, 2017
On Thursday December 7th, a Christmas Party will be sponsored by Muslims for Peace, Inc. and Stand with Dignity, a non-profit organizations based in central New Jersey. Soldiers from the Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst will also be volunteering. This party is for the children staying at the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey (CHSNJ) in Trenton, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk infants, youth, and families to achieve their potential. CHSNJ works to protect abused or neglected infants and children, strengthens families, and strives to establish permanent, stable, and loving homes.
This party is packed with fun and festivities to create special moments that children should expect during Christmas. Volunteers plan and coordinate this party in advance to make sure that these children enjoy the holiday by providing a fun and safe place to celebrate, as they prepare delicious food and desserts. The children receive individually wrapped presents along with a gift card which they can take home and open on Christmas Day.
Inspired by the Islamic tradition of unconditional love and generosity towards the less fortunate, Muslim communities have long been welcoming underprivileged children and families of all faiths. The Muslim community in Central Jersey recognizes the need to give back to those who need it most. As it says in the Holy Qur’an [Chapter 2, verse 215]: “They ask you as to what they should spend. Say: Whatever wealth you spend, it is for the parents and the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, and whatever good you do, God surely knows it.”
Irshad Haji, Program Director, said “Charity begins at home. As individuals, we are all connected, either as brothers (or sisters) in faith or equals in humanity. It is our obligation to help those less fortunate especially when they are our neighbors. The Holy Prophet has said That man is not from me who sleeps contentedly whilst his neighbor sleeps hungry. In New Jersey we have an estimated 1 million people living in poverty all of whom deserve food, shelter, clothing. As our declaration of independence states, all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Let us all do our part to help those less fortunate and guarantee their unalienable rights as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.”
